Tokoname

Tokoname's nightlife is quiet and local, with the daytime tourist crowds gone. A short walk from the station, you'll see the warm lights of old-school snack bars dotting the streets.

Centered around Tokoname Station, the main nightlife consists of snack bars and karaoke snack bars scattered along the shopping street and residential areas. The famous "Yakimono Sanpo Michi" pottery walking path is quiet at night, so nightlife is limited to the station area.

The core of nightlife is snack bars and karaoke. Most snack bars are small, run by a single mama-san, with prices around 3,000–5,000 yen per hour. Karaoke snack bars often offer all-you-can-drink sets. Hostess bars and girls bars are almost nonexistent, and concept cafes are not found here.

The clientele is mostly local regulars, so it might be a bit intimidating for tourists to walk in casually, but the mama-sans and regulars are often friendly. Few places speak English, so learning a few Japanese phrases helps.

Access: Meitetsu Tokoname Line from Nagoya takes about 40 minutes. The last train is around 11 PM, so don't drink too much. Taxis are available at the station but not plentiful.

Best to visit on Friday or Saturday night. Local office workers and craftsmen stop by after work, creating a homey atmosphere. If you're looking for flashy nightlife, head to Nagoya's Sakae or Nishiki areas instead.
