The Aisai, Kanie, and Yatomi area is a quiet nightlife district in the southern suburbs of Nagoya, dotted with local snack bars and girls bars. Large venues are rare, and the atmosphere is homey and intimate.
About 30 minutes south of Nagoya Station by train, you'll reach the Aisai, Kanie, and Yatomi area, where rural landscapes spread out. This is a nightlife district for locals, rarely visited by tourists.
The area is mainly spread around the stations of Kintetsu and JR lines, with small drinking streets forming near the stations. Car access is common, and many shops have parking lots.
The nightlife scene is centered on snack bars and girls bars. There are almost no kyabakura or host clubs, and only a handful of concept cafes. Prices are reasonable: snack bars cost around 2,000–3,000 yen per hour, and girls bars are similar.
While the number of shops is not large, each place is lively with regulars, and even first-timers can easily drop in. The old-school snack bar culture, where you enjoy conversation with the mama or staff, remains strong.
Access: from Nagoya Station, take the Kintetsu Nagoya Line to Kanie Station (about 15 min) or Yatomi Station (about 20 min). The JR Kansai Main Line is similar. By car, the Yatomi IC on the Higashi-Meihan Expressway is convenient.
Friday and Saturday nights are recommended. However, some shops close early, so check business hours in advance. English support is not expected, so learning a few Japanese phrases will enhance your experience.
Aisai/Kanie/Yatomi is generally fine for a night out. The main risk is bottakuri, a padded bill at the end. Stick to venues that post their prices, skip street touts steering you into ‘free’ bars, and confirm the set fee plus any nomination or bottle charges before you order.
