Kokura is the central area of Kitakyushu. According to the city, the Uomachi Gintengai arcade begins at Kokura Station in the north and runs about 400 m south to Tanga Market.
Kitakyushu's tourism site gives Kokura Station as about 15 minutes from Hakata by shinkansen, about 50 minutes from Kumamoto, and about 30 minutes from Fukuoka Airport. City material places the Uomachi shopping street directly below Kokura Station, served by the Nippo Main Line and the shinkansen, and along the Kitakyushu Monorail.

Kitakyushu's ordinance on regulating touting bans it inside zones the city designates, with the aim of keeping public places safe and comfortable to pass through and use. The zone designated when the ordinance was enacted is the Kokura city-centre zone, covering parts of Uomachi and Kyomachi.
For Kajimachi, Sakaimachi and Konyamachi, a council report dated 22 January 2026 judged local consensus not yet sufficient and said the city should watch local self-help efforts first, so they were not designated as of that report.
Kokura is generally fine for a night out. The main risk is bottakuri, a padded bill at the end. Stick to venues that post their prices, skip street touts steering you into ‘free’ bars, and confirm the set fee plus any nomination or bottle charges before you order.
