Hashima and Ōgaki are two cities in western Gifu Prefecture, each with a small nightlife district. Not famous tourist spots, they offer a homey atmosphere popular with local regulars.
Hashima's nightlife is scattered around JR Hashima Station. Ōgaki's entertainment area is concentrated within walking distance from the south exit of Ōgaki Station, forming a drinking street. Both are compact and easy to explore on foot.
The nightlife here centers on hostess bars (kyabakura) and girls bars. Hostess bars are relatively affordable, with many welcoming first-timers. Girls bars are even more casual, allowing you to just have a drink. There are also many old-school snack bars where you can chat with the mama and regulars.
The number of venues is small, but each has its own character and offers local-focused service. Prices: hostess bars around ¥5,000–8,000 per hour, girls bars ¥3,000–5,000 per hour, and snack bars with cover charges around ¥1,000–2,000.
Access: about 30–40 minutes from Nagoya via JR Tōkaidō Main Line or Meitetsu Line. Car is also possible, with coin parking near stations. Best visited on Friday or Saturday nights when local office workers and groups fill the area.
