Tajimi/Kani/Ena/Nakatsugawa

The Tajimi, Kani, Ena, and Nakatsugawa area lies in eastern Gifu Prefecture, about 30 minutes to an hour by train from Nagoya. Each town has its own character: Tajimi is known for pottery, while Ena and Nakatsugawa offer rich nature. At night, snack bars and girls bars light up near the stations and back streets, frequented by locals.

The nightlife hub is around each city's station. Tajimi Station has a concentration of hostess bars (kyabakura) and snack bars. Kani Station has scattered girls bars and izakayas. Ena and Nakatsugawa feature many traditional snack bars with a calm atmosphere.

Large nightclubs are rare; the scene is dominated by small snack bars and girls bars. Prices are reasonable: snack bars cost around ¥2,000–3,000 per hour, and hostess bars ¥5,000–8,000. Many regulars create a homey vibe.

This area is not well-known among foreign tourists, but it's great for those who speak some Japanese or seek a deep local experience. Some girls bars and hostess bars have staff who understand basic English, but Japanese is the main language.

Access: From Nagoya, take the JR Chuo Line to Tajimi (30 min), Kani (40 min), or Ena/Nakatsugawa (1 hour). Nightlife spots are within walking distance from each station. Weekends are busy with local office workers; weekdays are quieter.

Note that most places close early, often by midnight. Taxis are limited, so it's best to catch the last train or arrange a taxi in advance.
