At a girls bar the female staff stand on the inside of the counter and talk with guests while pouring drinks; they never sit beside you. That is because most girls bars operate as late-night alcohol-serving restaurants rather than under the hospitality licence hostess clubs hold, so they stop short of settai, sitting with and entertaining the guest. The upside is that many stay open late, and a single drink on the way home is a normal way to use one.

Billing is usually a time-based charge or an all-you-can-drink set fee plus your drinks. The main extra is a cast drink, when a staff member asks whether you will buy her one; whether you do is up to you. Casual clothes are fine, solo guests are common, and some venues have English-speaking staff.

If you check the price list before going in rather than following a tout, and ask the price of a drink before buying one for staff, the bill will hold few surprises.
