The basic charge incurred upon entering a venue, also called seat fee or table charge. It is part of the time-based pricing structure.
Room fee (ルーム料, rūmu-ryō) is the basic charge incurred upon entering a table-service nightlife venue in Japan, such as hostess clubs, girls bars, snack bars, and lounges. It is also referred to as seat fee, table charge, or cover charge.
This fee varies significantly depending on the venue's atmosphere, location, and the level of service provided. Typical ranges are from ¥1,000 to ¥3,000 for casual girls bars, and ¥5,000 to ¥10,000 or more for upscale hostess clubs. The room fee covers the right to sit at a table, a simple drink (sometimes including a wet towel and a small appetizer), and basic hostess service.
The room fee is part of a time-based pricing structure, usually included in the initial 30-minute or one-hour charge. Extension fees are calculated separately and are often not included in the room fee. Nomination fees and drink orders are also separate.
Some venues include one drink in the room fee, while others charge for drinks entirely separately. It is wise to confirm the room fee and its inclusions before entering. Additionally, consumption tax and service charge are often added, so the final bill will be higher than the listed price.
