Nightlife in Kanagawa Prefecture has a different flavor from Tokyo. From Yokohama's Minato Mirai and Isezakicho to Kawasaki's station area and Sagamihara's entertainment districts, each city has its own character.
Yokohama is the largest, with clusters of hostess bars and girls bars. Kawasaki has many snack bars and concept cafes near the station, with relatively affordable prices. Sagamihara is more local, with snack bars and small host clubs.
Hostess bars are concentrated in Yokohama's Isezakicho and Noge areas. Prices are slightly lower than Tokyo, around 5,000–8,000 yen for 60 minutes. Girls bars are abundant near Kawasaki Station, offering casual drinking. Snack bars are found in every city, serving as adult social spots where you chat with the mama. Concept cafes are increasing in Yokohama's Kannai area. Host clubs are a few in Isezakicho.
For a night out, start with Yokohama's Isezakicho. For bar hopping, Kawasaki's station street is good. For snack bar hopping, Sagamihara's central shopping street is a hidden spot.
Access from Tokyo is 30 minutes to 1 hour by train. Last trains are early, so consider taxis or staying overnight. Fridays and Saturdays are busiest, but snack bars and girls bars are open on weekdays.
Etiquette: In hostess bars and host clubs, buying drinks for the staff is customary. In snack bars, karaoke is common. In concept cafes, ask before taking photos.
Kanagawa runs on table-service venues: kyabakura (hostess clubs), girls bars, and snack bars. You pay a set fee by the hour, with nomination (shimei) and drink charges on top, so check each venue’s all-in price before you sit down.
Kanagawa is generally fine for a night out. The main risk is bottakuri, a padded bill at the end. Stick to venues that post their prices, skip street touts steering you into ‘free’ bars, and confirm the set fee plus any nomination or bottle charges before you order.
Popular services in Kanagawa include girls bars (flat drink charge, conversational setting), karaoke snack bars, and hostess clubs with shimei nomination options.
