Also known as izumi-central
Izumi Central is the heart of Sendai's Izumi Ward, with a concentration of hostess bars, girls bars, snack bars, and concept cafes around Izumi-Chuo Station. It's a lively nightlife hub popular with locals and visitors.
Night in Izumi Central starts the moment you step out of the subway. As you exit the ticket gate, buildings lined with neon signs come into view. Office workers, students, and tourists mingle, creating a lively atmosphere.
The area centers on Izumi-Chuo Station, spreading along the shopping street that runs north-south and its surroundings. A few minutes' walk from the station rotary leads you to streets dense with restaurants and nightlife spots. Access is convenient, about 15 minutes by subway from central Sendai.
The nightlife scene is dominated by hostess bars (kyabakura) and girls bars. Many are located on the 2nd to 4th floors of buildings near the station, with flashy signs out front. Snack bars are also plentiful, offering a nostalgic atmosphere. Recently, concept cafes have been increasing, popular among anime and game fans. Prices: hostess bars around 5,000–8,000 yen per hour, girls bars 3,000–5,000 yen.
Snack bars are more affordable, with cover charges around 2,000 yen. Concept cafes are time-based, typically 2,000–4,000 yen. Most places welcome first-timers, but note that hostess bars may charge extra for指名 (nomination) fees and drinks.
Access: a 0-minute walk from Izumi-Chuo Station on the Namboku Line. There are also shopping facilities directly connected to the station, so you can move without getting wet on rainy days. Best time: Friday and Saturday from 8 PM to 11 PM. Weekdays are busy with office workers, while weekends see more young groups.
Etiquette: it's fine to politely decline touts outside, but once you enter a venue, it's customary to stay at least one hour. In hostess bars, if you buy a drink for a hostess, check the price beforehand. English-speaking staff are limited, but Japanese ability will suffice.
Izumi Central runs on table-service venues: kyabakura (hostess clubs), girls bars, and snack bars. You pay a set fee by the hour, with nomination (shimei) and drink charges on top, so check each venue’s all-in price before you sit down.
Izumi Central is generally fine for a night out. The main risk is bottakuri, a padded bill at the end. Stick to venues that post their prices, skip street touts steering you into ‘free’ bars, and confirm the set fee plus any nomination or bottle charges before you order.
Popular services in Izumi Central include girls bars (flat drink charge, conversational setting), karaoke snack bars, and hostess clubs with shimei nomination options.
