Nagasaki's nightlife centres on Shianbashi in Nagasaki City. It is about 12 minutes by tram from Nagasaki Station, and from Hakata the Relay Kamome and Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen Kamome get you to Nagasaki in 1 hour 20 minutes at the fastest.

According to Nagasaki City's official tourism site, Shianbashi, in Aburaya-machi and Moto-shikkui-machi in the city centre, is Nagasaki's leading downtown and has become its representative entertainment district. The tram toward Sofukuji takes about 12 minutes from Nagasaki Station, or a bus from Nagasaki Station East about 10.
Beside Shianbashi lies Maruyama, once counted with Yoshiwara and Shimabara among Japan's three great pleasure quarters and frequented by locals and travellers alike. The bridge itself is gone; the river was filled in and only railing marks remain beside the road.
Between Hakata and Nagasaki you ride the Relay Kamome limited express and the Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen Kamome, changing at Takeo-Onsen, for 1 hour 20 minutes at the fastest. The connecting train waits across the platform, and there are 22 trains a day each way.
Airport buses from Nagasaki Airport go to Nagasaki Station and also to Sasebo Station, Isahaya Station, Huis Ten Bosch and Omura Terminal. The airport notes that arrivals can be delayed by road conditions.

Nagasaki is generally fine for a night out. The main risk is bottakuri, a padded bill at the end. Stick to venues that post their prices, skip street touts steering you into ‘free’ bars, and confirm the set fee plus any nomination or bottle charges before you order.
