At night, Chatan Town glows with neon along the coast of American Village, blending tourists and locals in a unique atmosphere. Influenced by the nearby US military bases, the area has an international vibe, offering a relaxed Okinawan night out.
The area is in central Okinawa, about 40 minutes by car from Naha. It centers on American Village, extending to Depot Island and Mihama. Buses are available, including direct routes from Naha Airport.
Nightlife is concentrated around American Village, with many kyabakura and girls bars. Prices are slightly cheaper than Naha: kyabakura around 5,000–8,000 yen per 60 minutes. Snack bars are also common, where you can sing karaoke and mingle with locals.
Concept cafes and lounges are scattered, and many places are friendly to tourists. Due to the presence of US military personnel and foreign visitors, some bars have English-speaking staff. Host clubs exist but are fewer than in Naha.
Access by car is convenient, but parking is often paid. By bus, get off at "Gunbyoin-mae" stop. Weekends get crowded, so arriving early is recommended.
Dress code is casual, but smart casual is safer for kyabakura and lounges. Credit cards are not widely accepted, so bring enough cash.

Chatan Town is generally fine for a night out. The main risk is bottakuri, a padded bill at the end. Stick to venues that post their prices, skip street touts steering you into ‘free’ bars, and confirm the set fee plus any nomination or bottle charges before you order.
