Chichibu and Nagatoro are nature-rich areas in western Saitama Prefecture, about two hours by train from Tokyo. During the day, they buzz with hikers and river rafters, but at night, the crowds thin out and a quiet, local atmosphere takes over.
The area splits into Chichibu city center and Nagatoro town. Around Chichibu Station, snack bars and izakayas cluster together. Near Nagatoro Station, tourist-oriented eateries dot the streets, but few stay open late.
The nightlife scene revolves around snack bars and izakayas. Snack bars are small, mama-run bars where you can enjoy karaoke and light conversation. Prices are reasonable at around 3,000–5,000 yen per hour. Izakayas serve local dishes and drinks, averaging 3,000–4,000 yen per person.
Table-service nightlife like kyabakura, host clubs, or girls bars are virtually nonexistent. For tourists, the best bet is to visit an izakaya and mingle with locals.
Access is via the Seibu Chichibu Line or Chichibu Railway. From Tokyo, the Seibu Ikebukuro Line's Red Arrow limited express is convenient. Most places close by 10 PM, so start early.
