Omiya is the town at the heart of Omiya Ward in Saitama City. It grew as the gate town of Hikawa Shrine and a post town on the Nakasendo, and the ward describes Omiya Station as one of Japan's leading terminals.
Omiya Station is the way in. Saitama City's page on Omiya Ward calls it one of the leading terminal stations in the country and presents it as the station at the centre of the ward.
In earlier times Omiya flourished as the gate town of Hikawa Shrine, the Ichinomiya of Musashi Province, and as a post town on the Nakasendo road. For today's ward, the city says its centre holds both the terminal station and the largest commercial and business district in the prefecture.

On 10 July 2026, Omiya Police Station ran a joint patrol with local partners around the east-exit bus rotary and Minami-Ginza-dori, reminding people that illegal touting is banned. The patrol targeted what the police station describes as the east-exit nightlife area.
Omiya is generally fine for a night out. The main risk is bottakuri, a padded bill at the end. Stick to venues that post their prices, skip street touts steering you into ‘free’ bars, and confirm the set fee plus any nomination or bottle charges before you order.
