Shimane's nightlife is based in Matsue, the prefectural capital, and in Izumo. This page covers the airport and highway buses that start at JR Matsue Station, flights to Izumo Enmusubi and Yonago airports, and the rail route via Okayama.

Matsue's tourism guide says highway buses leave the JR Matsue Station terminal for Osaka, Okayama, Hiroshima, Tokyo and Fukuoka, and right outside the north exit stands the Matsue International Tourist Information Center. Check each venue's location on its page before you set out.
For Izumo, Izumo Enmusubi Airport is about 30 minutes by car from JR Izumoshi Station and about 35 from Izumo-taisha-mae Station. The airport bus serves not only JR Matsue Station but also Matsushin-Shinjiko Onsen Station, in about 45 minutes.
There are two air routes. JAL's Haneda–Izumo Enmusubi flight is about 90 minutes and its Itami flight about 60, with an airport bus of about 35 minutes to Matsue Station. ANA's Tokyo–Yonago flight takes about 80 minutes, and the bus from Yonago Airport to Matsue Station about 45.
Overland, allow roughly 6 hours from Tokyo, or 3 hours 30 minutes from Shin-Osaka, by Shinkansen and limited express via Okayama. By daytime highway bus from Matsue Station, Osaka-Umeda is about 4 hours 40 minutes away, Okayama 3 hours 5 minutes and Hiroshima 3 hours.

Shimane is generally fine for a night out. The main risk is bottakuri, a padded bill at the end. Stick to venues that post their prices, skip street touts steering you into ‘free’ bars, and confirm the set fee plus any nomination or bottle charges before you order.
