Chofu

Chofu's nightlife is a quiet, local affair, away from Tokyo's core. Step out of the station rotary and you'll find small eateries and neon-lit alleys—not a flashy entertainment district, but a place with a genuine local night face.

Chofu Station is on the Keio Line, about 15 minutes from Shinjuku by express. The south exit has more restaurants and nightlife; the north exit is quieter, with residential areas and shopping streets.

Nightlife venues cluster around the south exit streets and side alleys. Snack bars are most common, followed by girls bars, a few hostess bars (kyabakura), and one or two concept cafes. Host clubs are rare. Prices are reasonable: snack bars are budget-friendly, hostess bars are slightly cheaper than central Tokyo.

Snack bars have a homey atmosphere with the mama and regulars—more fun if you speak Japanese. Girls bars are casual with young female staff. Hostess bars charge table fees and drinks, typically for 30-minute to 1-hour visits.

Access: 1–2 minutes walk from Chofu Station south exit. Hours vary: snack bars from 8pm to late, hostess bars and girls bars from 7pm to last. Weekends are busier, but many places accept walk-ins.

For foreign visitors, snack bars might be challenging, but some girls bars and hostess bars have English menus or staff. Even without Japanese, a smile and gestures go a long way.
