Oji's nightlife starts when you step off the main street into the alleys, where old-school snack bars glow with warm light. Regulars chat with the mama over drinks, creating a homey, nostalgic atmosphere.

Oji Station is served by the JR Keihin-Tohoku Line and Tokyo Metro Namboku Line, with easy access to Akabane and Ikebukuro. The drinking districts spread from both the north and south exits, with a dense cluster of snack bars and girls bars beyond the north exit shopping street.

The main draw is snack bars—over a hundred dot the area, with prices around ¥2,000–4,000 per hour, very affordable. Most have karaoke, and singing a song is part of the experience. Recently, girls bars have also increased, offering a more casual vibe than snack bars.

Concept cafes and hostess bars are rare; snack culture dominates. This makes Oji ideal for foreigners wanting an authentic, non-touristy Tokyo night out. Many bars are Japanese-only, but the friendly atmosphere makes up for it.

Access is a short walk from JR Oji Station. Friday and Saturday nights are best, when local office workers and regulars pack the bars. Try strolling down "Oji Nomiyagai Street" and pick a snack bar that catches your eye. Don't expect English menus, but the mama and regulars will likely be welcoming.
