Shakujii Park / Oizumi Gakuen

Shakujii Park and Oizumi Gakuen are residential areas along the Seibu Ikebukuro Line in western Tokyo. During the day, families and students fill the streets, but at night, local snack bars and girls bars quietly open their doors, attracting regulars.

This area is about 15 minutes by express from Ikebukuro, offering easy access while maintaining a calm atmosphere away from the city center. Around Shakujii Park Station, there are parks and shopping streets, while Oizumi Gakuen Station has movie theaters and commercial facilities.

The nightlife centers on snack bars and girls bars tucked away in alleyways a few minutes from the stations. Snack bars are often small, run by a single mama, with prices around 3,000–5,000 yen per hour. Girls bars have hostesses serving over the counter, with drink-inclusive rates of 4,000–6,000 yen per hour.

There are almost no kyabakura or host clubs, and only a few concept cafes. Instead, you'll find a homey atmosphere where local office workers and regulars relax. English is rarely spoken, so it may be challenging if you don't know Japanese.

Access: from Ikebukuro, take the Seibu Ikebukuro Line—express to Shakujii Park Station (15 min) or local to Oizumi Gakuen Station (20 min). Last trains are around 11:30 PM, so it's best to enter a bar by 10 PM. Weekends can be busy, but many places accept walk-ins.

Casual dress is fine, but in snack bars, being considerate to the mama is key. For first-timers, it's recommended to have a light drink at an izakaya near the station before bar-hopping.
