Hachioji is the area around JR Hachioji and Keio-Hachioji stations in Hachioji City, Tokyo. Beyond Kurobei-dori near Nakacho lies the Hachioji kagai, the geisha quarter the city presents.
Hachioji’s walking route starts at the JR station’s north exit, with about 500 metres to the entrance of Kurobei-dori. GO TOKYO names Hachiko, Yokohama and Chuo as the JR services here; Keio-Hachioji Station lies about 400 metres to the north-east of Hachioji Station.
Kurobei-dori appears on Hachioji City’s walking course from the JR station’s north exit. Near Nakacho, the street marks the gateway to Hachioji’s hanamachi in the city’s description. The city calls this the only hanamachi in the Tama region where geisha remain active.

Hachioji City is included among the municipalities with touting zones in the police material updated on 31 March 2016. The Tokyo nuisance-prevention rule concerns specified forms of touting in public places inside zones designated by the Public Safety Commission.
Hachioji is generally fine for a night out. The main risk is bottakuri, a padded bill at the end. Stick to venues that post their prices, skip street touts steering you into ‘free’ bars, and confirm the set fee plus any nomination or bottle charges before you order.
