At night along the Tokyu Line, away from the bustle of Shibuya, local regulars gather at snack bars and girls bars. Small signs visible from train windows mark the entrances to adult playgrounds.
The Tokyu Toyoko Line, Den-en-toshi Line, and Oimachi Line spread like a network. Starting from Shibuya, each station—Nakameguro, Jiyugaoka, Futako-Tamagawa—has a different character. The areas around each station are walkable, perfect for bar hopping.
The nightlife is dominated by locally-oriented snack bars and girls bars. Hostess bars are also scattered, but not as large-scale as in Shinjuku or Roppongi. Prices are reasonable: snack bars charge a cover of 2,000–3,000 yen, girls bars around 3,000–5,000 yen per hour. Concept cafes are increasing, a delight for anime and game fans.
In Jiyugaoka and Futako-Tamagawa, stylish bars and lounges are popular, though few stay open late. Nakameguro has many riverside terrace seats, perfect for dates. Overall, the atmosphere is calm, centered on local regulars rather than tourists.
Access is excellent: 10–20 minutes from Shibuya to each station. Last trains are around 1 a.m., so watch your drinking. First-timers may be puzzled by the "otoshi" (cover charge) culture at snack bars, but that's the local way.
The best time is Friday and Saturday from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Weekdays are busy with office workers, weekends are more casual. Few places speak English, but knowing Japanese enhances the experience.
Tokyu Line runs on table-service venues: kyabakura (hostess clubs), girls bars, and snack bars. You pay a set fee by the hour, with nomination (shimei) and drink charges on top, so check each venue’s all-in price before you sit down.
Tokyu Line is generally fine for a night out. The main risk is bottakuri, a padded bill at the end. Stick to venues that post their prices, skip street touts steering you into ‘free’ bars, and confirm the set fee plus any nomination or bottle charges before you order.
Popular services in Tokyu Line include girls bars (flat drink charge, conversational setting), karaoke snack bars, and hostess clubs with shimei nomination options.
