Wakaba Ward/Midori Ward

Wakaba Ward and Midori Ward are residential areas located in the southeastern part of Chiba City. At night, snack bars and girls bars light up around major stations, bustling with local regulars. There are few flashy neon signs, giving off a calm, adult atmosphere.

Geographically, Wakaba Ward extends east from central Chiba City, while Midori Ward stretches southeast. Both wards are served by the JR Sotobo Line and the Chiba Urban Monorail, offering good access. Main hubs are around Tōga Station in Wakaba Ward and Kamatori Station in Midori Ward.

The nightlife centers on snack bars and girls bars. Snack bars are small, often run by a mama-san, where you can drink and enjoy karaoke. Girls bars have young female staff and are relatively casual with reasonable prices. Kyabakura and host clubs are almost nonexistent.

Prices are affordable: snack bars cost around 3,000–5,000 yen per hour including cover charge, while girls bars charge 500–1,000 yen per drink. The atmosphere is homey, catering more to local office workers and regulars than tourists.

Access is easy: about 5 minutes from JR Chiba Station to Tōga Station, and about 10 minutes to Kamatori Station. Taxis are also available at night. Friday and Saturday nights are best, but many places close by midnight, so start early.

Don't expect English service. If you don't speak Japanese, have a translation app ready. In snack bars, chatting with the mama-san is part of the experience. Be polite, and you'll be warmly welcomed.
