Fukushima's nightlife centres on three cities: Jinbacho and Sakaemachi in Fukushima City, the Ekimae blocks of Koriyama, and Taira's Tamachi and Shiroganemachi in Iwaki. The prefectural ordinance lets hostess clubs stay open until 1:00 only in parts of these districts.

Article 5(3) of Fukushima's entertainment business ordinance sets out where hostess-type venues such as hostess clubs (kyabakura) may stay open past midnight. In Fukushima City these are set blocks of seven districts including Honcho, Sakaemachi, Omachi and Jinbacho; in Koriyama, Ekimae 1 and 2-chome, Omachi 1-chome and Nakamachi.
In Iwaki the zone covers parts of Taira's Nichome to Gochome, Daikumachi, Shiroganemachi and Tamachi, bounded by named city roads and the Joban Line. Article 5(1) sets the closing time at 1:00; outside these zones, hostess clubs normally close at midnight.
The prefecture's tourism site gives about 1 hour 30 minutes from Tokyo to Fukushima Station on the Tohoku Shinkansen, while Koriyama is about 1 hour 25 minutes. For Iwaki, the Limited Express Hitachi from Tokyo Station takes about 2 hours 30 minutes. Coming from Sendai in Miyagi, the Shinkansen reaches Fukushima in about 25 minutes and Koriyama in about 40.
Fukushima Prefecture has four parts on this site. Koriyama covers Koriyama Station Front, Asahi and Otsuki; Iwaki covers Iwaki Station Front · Taira, Yumoto, Onahama and Izumi, and Nakoso / Ueda; Fukushima City covers Fukushima Station Front; and Sukagawa is one area of its own.
Fukushima is generally fine for a night out. The main risk is bottakuri, a padded bill at the end. Stick to venues that post their prices, skip street touts steering you into ‘free’ bars, and confirm the set fee plus any nomination or bottle charges before you order.
