Sukagawa

At night in Sukagawa, neon lights flicker along the quiet streets near the station, and local snack bars and girls bars begin to open. It's not flashy like a tourist destination, but there's a homey atmosphere.

Sukagawa Station is on the JR Tohoku Main Line, about 15 minutes from Koriyama and 40 minutes from Fukushima City. Nightlife spots are concentrated within walking distance around the station rotary. The area is compact, so you won't get lost even on your first visit.

The nightlife scene centers on hostess bars (kyabakura) and girls bars. A few hostess bars line the street in front of the station, with prices around 5,000–8,000 yen per hour. Girls bars are more casual, costing 3,000–5,000 yen. There are also many snack bars where you can hear warm conversations between the mama and regulars.

Concept cafes and host clubs are almost nonexistent; this is a locally oriented nightlife area. It's mainly frequented by business travelers and local regulars rather than tourists, so don't expect English service.

Access is a short walk from JR Sukagawa Station. Taxis are available at the station. Friday and Saturday nights are the liveliest. Casual dress is fine, but for snack bars, slightly smarter attire is safer.

At hostess bars and girls bars, confirm the price before entering. At snack bars, there may be a cover charge or appetizer fee, so it's smart to ask the mama first.
