Bottle
ボトル · botoru
Also known as: botoru
Ordering a drink by the bottle rather than by the glass; in Japanese you "put in" a bottle (ボトルを入れる).
A bottle order is whisky, shochu, champagne or another spirit bought as a whole bottle instead of glass by glass. At hostess clubs the set fee often already covers a house bottle, the venue's standard spirit, so "botoru" usually means a named brand you choose on top of that. Each brand is priced on the menu and billed separately from the set fee.
What you do not finish can usually be kept at the venue for your next visit, which is called bottle keep. You can decline when a bottle is suggested. Check the brand and price on the menu before ordering, and ask the floor staff if anything is unclear.
When you'll encounter this
You meet it on hostess club and snack bar menus, and when a cast member asks whether you want to open a bottle.
