A general term for staff or hostesses working at nightclubs, hostess bars, and similar venues.
Cast is a general term for staff working at table-service nightlife venues such as nightclubs, hostess bars, lounges, and snack bars. It most often refers to hostesses or hosts, but can also include bartenders and floor staff.
The role of the cast is to provide an enjoyable time through conversation and drink service. In venues with a nomination system, customers can request a specific cast member for more personalized attention. A nomination fee is typically charged separately, usually ranging from 3,000 to 10,000 yen.
Cast availability changes daily, so it is advisable to check with the venue before visiting. Due to shift schedules, the same cast member may not always be present.
Tipping is not customary in Japan, but buying a drink (or a bottle) for the cast is a common way to show appreciation. For those looking to deepen their connection, a "dohan" (accompaniment outside the venue for a meal or date) may be arranged, but this is always based on a personal agreement between the cast and the customer.
