Companion

In Japan "konpanion" mostly means a banquet companion: a woman dispatched by an agency, by the hour, to a dinner party in a hot-spring inn or hotel banquet room, where she pours drinks, chats and joins the karaoke. It is the reverse of a hostess club, where the guest goes to the venue; here the staff come to the guest's party.

Agencies price it by the number of companions and hours, and the inn you are staying at usually makes the arrangement. In venue descriptions and reviews the word is sometimes used loosely for hospitality staff in general.
