Hiroshima's nightlife is more than just the Atomic Bomb Dome and okonomiyaki. Step into the Nagarekawa and Yagenbori districts in the city center, where streetcars run and neon-lit alleys spread out. This is the largest entertainment district in the Chugoku region, drawing both local office workers and tourists.

Nagarekawa is about 15 minutes by tram from Hiroshima Station, a short walk from Hatchobori tram stop. The main street running north-south is lined with restaurants and nightlife spots. Adjacent Yagenbori has a deeper, more intimate vibe, with small snack bars and bars tucked into maze-like alleys.

The main attractions here are hostess bars (kyabakura) and girls bars. Hostess bars range from upscale to casual, with rates around 3,000 yen per 30 minutes. Girls bars are more relaxed, with cover charges of 1,000–2,000 yen. Snack bars, often run by older mama-sans, offer a cozy atmosphere with karaoke. Concept cafes are also on the rise, catering to anime and game fans.

In terms of scale, there are about 50 hostess bars, 30 girls bars, and over 100 snack bars. Host clubs are few, so the scene is not primarily female-oriented. Many places have transparent pricing, making it easy for first-timers. However, hostess bars may charge extra for drinks and nominations, so check before entering.

Access is easy via tram from Hiroshima Station to Hatchobori. Many hotels are within walking distance, so you can drink safely. Best time is 8–11 PM. Weekends are crowded, but weekdays are quieter. Be aware of touts and scouts—just ignore them. Also, photography is banned in most hostess and girls bars, so respect the rules.
