Also known as naha-and-others
A short distance from central Naha, this area has a scattering of local snack bars and girls bars. It's a relaxed nightlife spot for locals rather than tourists.
Leaving central Naha, the flashy neon streets for tourists give way to snack bars and girls bars that locals frequent daily. This area, grouped under 'others,' is actually perfect for those wanting to experience Okinawa's real nightlife.
Geographically, it's scattered within a 10-minute taxi ride from Kokusai Street or Matsuyama area. Bus routes exist but are infrequent at night, so taxis are practical. As the name suggests, it's not a single entertainment district but multiple small streets and intersections with shops.
The nightlife centers on snack bars bustling with regulars. The style is chatting with the mama or staff over the counter, with reasonable rates of ¥3,000–5,000 per hour. Girls bars with young female staff are also increasing, typically ¥1,000–2,000 per drink. Kyabakura and host clubs are rare, and concept cafes are few.
The appeal is experiencing un-touristy, raw Okinawan nightlife. Some snack bars feature live sanshin music, and you might dance kachashi with locals. However, English menus are almost nonexistent, and not speaking Japanese can be challenging.
Access: 20–30 minutes by taxi from Naha Airport (about ¥2,000), or 10 minutes from Kokusai Street (about ¥1,000). Friday and Saturday nights are best; weekdays can be quiet. When entering, a smile and greeting back to 'Irasshaimase' is the local way.
Note: Most shops don't accept credit cards, so bring plenty of cash. Snack bars may charge a separate cover fee, so confirm before entering. While tourist scams are rare, language barriers can lead to unclear pricing, so a translation app is recommended.
Naha and others runs on table-service venues: kyabakura (hostess clubs), girls bars, and snack bars. You pay a set fee by the hour, with nomination (shimei) and drink charges on top, so check each venue’s all-in price before you sit down.
Naha and others is generally fine for a night out. The main risk is bottakuri, a padded bill at the end. Stick to venues that post their prices, skip street touts steering you into ‘free’ bars, and confirm the set fee plus any nomination or bottle charges before you order.
Popular services in Naha and others include girls bars (flat drink charge, conversational setting), karaoke snack bars, and hostess clubs with shimei nomination options.
