Kiriwood Town

A few minutes' walk from Takaoka Station, turn into an alley and you'll suddenly find the neon-lit Kiriwood Town. It's bustling with local office workers and regulars, giving off a homey atmosphere. Though not flashy, it's beloved as an adult playground full of human warmth.

Kiriwood Town is located in central Takaoka City, with about 30 establishments packed along a narrow east-west alley. It's within walking distance from the station, and the area is also dotted with izakayas and ramen shops, making it convenient for second parties.

The main nightlife here consists of snack bars and girls bars. Snack bars are small, run by a mama, where you can relax and enjoy karaoke. Girls bars have young female staff serving drinks in a casual system. There are also a few hostess bars (kyabakura) for those seeking more formal entertainment.

Prices are most reasonable at snack bars, with cover charges around 1,000–2,000 yen. Girls bars cost 3,000–5,000 yen including drinks. Hostess bars have set fees of 5,000–8,000 yen. Overall, it's much cheaper than Tokyo or Osaka, making it easy for first-timers to enter.

Access is a 5-minute walk from Takaoka Station. Peak hours are from 8 PM to midnight, with Fridays and Saturdays being the busiest. Some snack bars close early, so it's best to start moving by 9 PM.

This area is still little known to foreign tourists, but it's perfect for those who speak a bit of Japanese or want to soak up the local atmosphere. At snack bars, you can enjoy conversations with the mama and regulars, experiencing Japanese-style hospitality.
