Central Wakayama has two terminals: JR Wakayama Station on the JR Hanwa Line and Wakayamashi Station on the Nankai Main Line. According to the city's tourism page, Keyaki-odori links the two, passing Wakayama Castle between JR Wakayama Station and Wakayamashi Station before continuing to the prefectural office.

There are two rail routes from Osaka: the JR Hanwa Line limited express from Shin-Osaka to Wakayama Station in about an hour, or the Nankai Main Line from Namba to Wakayamashi Station, also about an hour. Highway buses take about 1 hour 30 minutes from JR Osaka Station to Wakayama Station and about 2 hours from Osaka International (Itami) Airport.
From Kansai International Airport the limousine bus reaches Wakayama Station in about 40 minutes. By rail, JR with a change at Hineno takes about 45 minutes to Wakayama Station, and Nankai with a change at Izumisano about 40 minutes to Wakayamashi Station.

Wakayama is generally fine for a night out. The main risk is bottakuri, a padded bill at the end. Stick to venues that post their prices, skip street touts steering you into ‘free’ bars, and confirm the set fee plus any nomination or bottle charges before you order.
