Choshi/Kujukuri

The Choshi and Kujukuri area sits on the eastern edge of Chiba Prefecture, facing the Pacific Ocean with fishing ports and long sandy beaches. By day it's a tourist destination, but at night a quiet local nightlife emerges.

Geographically, snack bars and girls bars are scattered around Choshi Station and along the national highway that runs parallel to Kujukuri Beach. Rather than a bustling nightlife district, these venues are tucked away in back alleys and shopping streets.

The nightlife scene is dominated by snack bars and girls bars. There are almost no kyabakura (hostess bars) or host clubs, and concept cafes are rare. Prices are reasonable: snack bars charge around 2,000–3,000 yen per hour, and girls bars around 3,000–5,000 yen. Many regulars are locals, so it might feel a bit exclusive for tourists, but some places welcome newcomers warmly.

Karaoke snack bars are also common, offering a chance to sing and mingle with locals. Additionally, izakayas serving fresh seafood from the local port are popular for evening dining.

Access: about 2 hours by limited express from Tokyo to Choshi Station. By car, use the Kujukuri Toll Road. Most venues close by 10 PM, so an early start is best. Respect local customs and make a reservation before visiting for a smoother experience.
