Matsudo City is a bedroom community in northwestern Chiba, about 30 minutes from central Tokyo on the JR Joban Line. Around the station, you'll find hostess bars, girls bars, snack bars, and concept cafes offering a local-focused nightlife scene.
Exit Matsudo Station's east exit, and neon signs catch your eye. Small-scale hostess bars and girls bars line the streets where local office workers and students pass by. It's not flashy, but the atmosphere is homey.

Access: about 25 minutes from Ueno on the JR Joban Line rapid service. Last trains are around 11:30 PM, so don't drink too much. There are business hotels near the station if you want to stay overnight.
Friday and Saturday nights are best for visiting, when locals fill the area. English menus are rare, but a translation app on your phone will suffice.
Matsudo City runs on table-service venues: kyabakura (hostess clubs), girls bars, and snack bars. You pay a set fee by the hour, with nomination (shimei) and drink charges on top, so check each venue’s all-in price before you sit down.
Matsudo City is generally fine for a night out. The main risk is bottakuri, a padded bill at the end. Stick to venues that post their prices, skip street touts steering you into ‘free’ bars, and confirm the set fee plus any nomination or bottle charges before you order.
