Isehara City

The night in Isehara City is wrapped in the quiet shadow of Mount Oyama, with small lights warming the streets where locals gather. Along the shopping street extending from the station, old-fashioned snack bars and girls bars are scattered, lacking the flashiness of tourist spots but filled with a homey atmosphere.

Isehara City lies almost in the center of Kanagawa Prefecture, about an hour from Shinjuku on the Odakyu Line. Drinking districts spread around the north and south exits of the station, with snack bars and izakayas particularly concentrated on the north side. Known as the gateway to Mount Oyama, the area bustles with hikers during the day but shows a quiet, local face at night.

The main nightlife venues are snack bars and girls bars. Snack bars center on conversations between the mama and regulars, with karaoke being a common activity. Prices are reasonable at around 3,000–5,000 yen per hour, making them easy to enter even for first-timers. Girls bars are staffed by young women and focus on drinks, costing about 2,000–4,000 yen per hour. Kyabakura and host clubs are almost nonexistent, and concept cafes are few.

There are over 30 snack bars and about 10 girls bars around the station. Though small in scale, each has a unique storefront, and once you step inside, the mama or staff will warmly welcome you. Since the clientele is mainly local regulars rather than tourists, knowing a bit of Japanese can enhance your experience.

Access is within walking distance from Odakyu Isehara Station. There is a taxi stand in front of the station, so getting home after the last train is not a problem. Friday or Saturday nights are recommended, when the area is moderately lively with local office workers and groups. Casual dress is fine, but some snack bars require removing shoes, so easy-to-remove footwear is convenient.

For first-timers, start by exploring the drinking district at the north exit of the station, where shops with signs reading "Snack" or "Girls Bar" line the streets. Checking the price before entering will give you peace of mind. English support is limited, but a translation app on your smartphone should suffice for communication.
