Shizuoka's nightlife is not as flashy as Tokyo or Osaka. Instead, it has a calm, adult atmosphere where locals drop by after work. In the drinking districts near the station, neon lights glow modestly, and laughter and karaoke sounds drift from the back alleys.
The center of Shizuoka City's nightlife is around the north exit of JR Shizuoka Station and the Gofukucho / Shichikencho area. The station front has hotels and commercial facilities, and a short walk leads to a dense cluster of restaurants and bars. The Shimizu Ward also has its own drinking areas, but overall the city is compact and easy to navigate.
The mainstream venues here are snack bars and girls bars. Snack bars are homey spaces centered around the mama and regulars, where you drink while enjoying karaoke.
