Asakusa is the area around Asakusa Station in Taito ward. GO TOKYO introduces it as a district centred on Senso-ji, with shopping streets such as Kaminarimon and Nakamise around the temple.
The route from Tokyo Station in GO TOKYO’s guide goes first to Kanda by Yamanote, then continues by the Ginza subway. At Asakusa, the guide identifies the Tobu Skytree service and Toei’s Asakusa route alongside the Ginza Line of Tokyo Metro.
GO TOKYO describes Asakusa as a district built around Senso-ji, with Kaminarimon, Nakamise and other shopping streets spreading out from the temple. Should venues be added for Asakusa, this is where they will go. At the moment the Ueno/Asakusa/Nippori page holds the area's listings, and the Ueno / Okachimachi / Yushima page has them district by district.
The Metropolitan Police list gives Nishi-Asakusa 3-chome among Taito ward's designated touting zones; Asakusa on its own is not listed as a block name (31 March 2016).
Asakusa is generally fine for a night out. The main risk is bottakuri, a padded bill at the end. Stick to venues that post their prices, skip street touts steering you into ‘free’ bars, and confirm the set fee plus any nomination or bottle charges before you order.
