Hyogo

Kobe's nightlife is wrapped in the sophisticated atmosphere of a port city. The Sannomiya entertainment district glows with neon, and small snack bars and pubs line the backstreets, bustling with locals and tourists alike.

Geographically, the nightlife hub of Hyogo Prefecture is the Sannomiya and Motomachi area in Kobe. South of JR Sannomiya Station, restaurants and nightspots are densely packed. Smaller entertainment districts exist in Akashi and Himeji as well.

Sannomiya has many hostess bars and girls bars, especially around Higashimon Street and Kitanozaka. Prices range from 5,000 to 10,000 yen per hour for hostess bars, and 3,000 to 5,000 yen for girls bars, relatively reasonable. Snack bars are popular with regulars and have a homey feel. Concept cafes are also increasing, themed around anime or games, popular with younger crowds.

In Motomachi, long-established snack bars and upscale lounges offer a more mature, relaxed night out. Kobe also has many historical buildings in the Ijinkan district and former foreign settlement, with stylish bars and clubs.

Access is convenient: about 20 minutes from Osaka by JR train. The area around Sannomiya Station is compact and walkable, perfect for bar hopping. Peak hours are Friday and Saturday from 10 PM to 1 AM, and some places require reservations on weekends.

Note that some hostess bars and girls bars may not have English menus, so learning a few Japanese phrases helps. Also, snack bars may charge a separate cover fee, so check before entering.
