Kobe

Kobe's nightlife blends the romantic atmosphere of a port town with the sophistication of an international city. Step out of Sannomiya Station, and you'll find neon-lit alleys filled with laughter and the clinking of glasses.

Geographically, the area between Sannomiya and Motomachi stations is the nightlife hub. Kitanozaka and Flower Road host upscale venues, while the arcades behind Motomachi hide old-school snack bars.

The main attractions are hostess bars (kyabakura) and girls bars. Around Sannomiya, hostess bars range from small to large, with rates averaging ¥5,000–10,000 per hour. Girls bars are more casual, costing ¥3,000–5,000. Concept cafes (conkafe) are also on the rise, themed around anime or games, popular with young foreigners.

Snack bars are a hidden gem in Kobe. Many are run by a single mama, offering a homey atmosphere where regulars chat freely. However, they can be hard to enter without Japanese. Karaoke snack bars are also common, perfect for those who love to sing.

Access is excellent: within walking distance from JR Sannomiya, Hankyu Kobe-Sannomiya, and Hanshin Kobe-Sannomiya stations. Most places stay open late, but watch out for last trains. Fridays and Saturdays are busy, so reservations are recommended.

For foreign visitors, look for hostess bars or girls bars that advertise English support. In snack bars, be aware of cover charges or table fees—ask before entering. Kobe's nightlife is a playground for adults with a sense of adventure.
