Kikuchi/Otsu covers Kikuchi City and Otsu Town in Kumamoto Prefecture. Kikuchi has its city hall in Waifu and uses the slogan "Iyashi no Sato Kikuchi", a village of healing.
Otsu’s official site identifies the Airport Liner as an access route linking JR rail services with the airport. This connection between rail and air travel is the transport route the town introduces in its visitor information.
Otsu Town's official site explains that the town was once a post town on the sankin-kotai routes. Kikuchi · Otsu has no venue entry yet, and future additions will appear on this page. Existing city-wide listings belong to the Kumamoto City page, with Lower Street providing the area-level entries.
Kikuchi and Otsu are separate municipalities from Kumamoto City. Kumamoto’s anti-touting ordinance designates a prohibited zone in its own city centre; that designation does not extend to the districts of Kikuchi or Otsu.
Kikuchi/Otsu is generally fine for a night out. The main risk is bottakuri, a padded bill at the end. Stick to venues that post their prices, skip street touts steering you into ‘free’ bars, and confirm the set fee plus any nomination or bottle charges before you order.
