Kanayama is the area around Kanayama Sogo Station in Nagoya. The Nagoya Convention & Visitors Bureau covers it together with neighbouring Osu as the Osu and Kanayama area.
At Kanayama Sogo Station, subway passengers use the Meiko or Meijo line. JR services run on the Tokaido and Chuo main lines, while Meitetsu serves the station on its Nagoya Main Line. The Visitors Bureau describes the station as an important place.
The Visitors Bureau groups Kanayama with Osu as a single area and mentions a plan, from 2020, to develop Kanayama intensively as a secondary city centre.

The Kanayama no-touting zone designated by Nagoya City spans Kanayama 1, 2 and 4 chome and Kanayama-cho 1 chome in Naka Ward, and Kanayama-cho 1 and 2 chome in Atsuta Ward. Designated on 1 October 2018, it bars anyone from touting or having others tout.
The city handles breaches in the zone step by step, with guidance, a recommendation and then an order. Its page explains that a person who also ignores the order may face a non-criminal fine.
Kanayama is generally fine for a night out. The main risk is bottakuri, a padded bill at the end. Stick to venues that post their prices, skip street touts steering you into ‘free’ bars, and confirm the set fee plus any nomination or bottle charges before you order.
