Meieki is the local name for the area around Nagoya Station, which the Nagoya Convention & Visitors Bureau calls the gateway to sightseeing in Nagoya.
According to the Visitors Bureau, JR, the subway, Kintetsu and Meitetsu all come together at Nagoya Station. The subway lines that stop there are the Higashiyama and Sakura-dori lines, as shown in the city transport bureau's list of stations.
The Visitors Bureau names Nagoya Station as the entry point for visiting the city and explains that locals shorten it to Meieki. Around this railway hub, the commercial landscape includes underground shopping streets alongside large retail complexes.

Of Nagoya's no-touting zones, the Nagoya Station zone covers Takehashi-cho, Tsubaki-cho, Meieki 1 to 4 chome and Noritake 2 chome in Nakamura Ward. Touting there is banned, and so is getting someone else to tout for you.

Meieki / Nakamura Ward is generally fine for a night out. The main risk is bottakuri, a padded bill at the end. Stick to venues that post their prices, skip street touts steering you into ‘free’ bars, and confirm the set fee plus any nomination or bottle charges before you order.
