Teine

Teine's nightlife shows a completely different face from central Sapporo. Away from the hustle and bustle of entertainment districts, it offers spaces where locals can relax. Small signs begin to light up along the station front and main roads.

Teine is located in western Sapporo, developed around JR Teine Station. The station area has commercial facilities and restaurants, surrounded by residential neighborhoods. Tourists rarely visit; it's a purely local town.

At night, Teine mainly features snack bars and girls bars. There are no large kyabakura or host clubs; instead, small, homey places dominate. Snack bars retain a Showa-era atmosphere where mama-san and regulars enjoy karaoke. Girls bars are casual drinking spots with young staff. Prices are reasonable: snack bars cost around 3,000 yen per hour including cover charge, and girls bars start from 500 yen per drink.

There are also a few concept cafes and lounges, but not many. Overall, the number of venues is small, making it a modest nightlife area. However, each place is unique and close to regulars. It might be challenging for tourists to drop in casually, but it's a valuable spot to experience local nightlife.

Access is within walking distance from JR Teine Station, about 15 minutes by rapid train from Sapporo Station. Most places close by 10 PM, with few open late. Friday and Saturday nights are busiest, but still not crowded.

For nightlife in Teine, knowing some Japanese enhances the experience. Conversation with the mama-san is central at snack bars, and English is rarely understood. Girls bars have younger staff, so simple English might work. In any case, respect local customs and enjoy quietly.
