Izumino Line / Nakata Area

When you exit Nakata Station, a quiet residential area spreads out. Small shops and restaurants line the rotary in front of the station, and at night, the neon lights of snack bars begin to flicker on one by one.

This area is in Izumi Ward, Yokohama, about 20 minutes from Yokohama Station on the Izumino Line. Nakata is a small station where only local trains stop, and the surrounding area is a locally-oriented nightlife district.

Nightlife spots are concentrated within a 5-minute walk from the station. Snack bars are the mainstay, with a few girls bars and small kyabakura (hostess bars) as well. Prices are reasonable: snack bars charge around 1,000–2,000 yen cover, and girls bars run about 1,000–1,500 yen per 30 minutes.

There are many regular local customers, and flashy tourist-oriented shops are rare, but it's perfect for those seeking a homey atmosphere. At snack bars, you can casually chat with the mama and regulars.

Access is about 20 minutes by train from Yokohama Station. The last train is relatively early, so start moving by 11:00 PM at the latest. There is a taxi stand in front of the station, but not many cabs.

If you're visiting for the first time, try the snack bar "Maririn" or the girls bar "Rabitto" near the station. English support is not expected, so it's a good idea to learn a few simple Japanese phrases.
