Hommachi

Hommachi's nightlife begins quietly after the daytime office workers leave. The high-rises along Midosuji Boulevard are lit up, and hidden adult spots glow with neon in the back alleys.

The area centers on Hommachi Station, an office district between Midosuji and Yotsubashi streets. It stretches north-south, adjacent to Shinsaibashi in the south and Yodoyabashi in the north. Nightlife spots are mainly concentrated in the alleys west of Midosuji.

The core of nightlife is kyabakura hostess bars and girls bars. Kyabakura range from high-end to affordable, often used for business entertainment. Girls bars are casual, mostly with a one-drink system. Snack bars are also common, popular as adult social venues where you chat with the mama.

Price range: kyabakura about 5,000–10,000 yen per hour, girls bars 500–1,000 yen per drink. Snack bars often have bottle-keep systems; even first-timers can enjoy for around 3,000–5,000 yen including cover charge. There are a few concept cafes and lounges, but the main draws are kyabakura and girls bars.

Access: directly connected to Hommachi Station on the Midosuji, Chuo, and Yotsubashi subway lines. One stop from Osaka Station, convenient for bar-hopping from Umeda. Most places open 10 PM to 5 AM, busiest on Friday nights.

Note: many kyabakura are cash-on-delivery, so bring plenty of cash. Since many patrons are salarymen in suits, overly casual dress may stand out. For first-timers, starting at a girls bar is recommended to get a feel for the atmosphere.
