Namba/Shinsaibashi

At night, Namba and Shinsaibashi blaze with neon signs and endless crowds. Past the iconic Glico sign on Dotonbori, side streets are lined with touts from hostess bars and girls bars.

The area spans from Namba Station to Shinsaibashi-suji shopping street, straddling Dotonbori canal. Underground malls can be confusing, but above ground the signage is clear.

Nightlife centers on hostess bars (kyabakura, from high-end to casual), girls bars, snack bars, and the increasingly popular concept cafes. Prices: hostess bars 5,000–10,000 yen/hour, girls bars 3,000–5,000 yen, snack bars 3,000–6,000 yen including cover, concept cafes 2,000–4,000 yen.

Hundreds of venues cluster around Horie south of Dotonbori and Amerikamura west of Shinsaibashi Station. Many cater to foreign visitors with English menus and multilingual staff.

Access: a short walk from Namba or Shinsaibashi subway stations (Midosuji Line). Taxis are plentiful. Best time: 8–11 PM. Weekends are busy but weekdays are fine. Always carry your passport for age verification. Check prices before following touts.
